Chic, swanky, full of culture...let's just say I haven't been to such a hip sit-down dinner in quite a while. Just last week Dennis Miller, president of the eponymous New York Design Center showroom we love so much, co-hosted an event to commemorate Jiun Ho's 15th Anniversary collection, the Jiun Ho Collection V. The San Francisco-based furniture and lighting designer's inventive, global-inspired products were set throughout the pop-up showroom in Suite 1502 of the New York Design Center. While guests—editors, PR friends, and respected people in the industry—perused the ensemble of minimalistic designs, hors d'oeuvres by sought-after chef Bradford Thompson of Bellyful Consulting (a very apt name) were passed around along with easily imbibed cocktails from master mixologist Eben Klemm. "I wanted to combine really classic cocktails with some international flavors, in order to reflect the combination of inspirations the designer uses," says Klemm. "Therefore, a Mule was given the additional spicing of tumeric, a Champagne cocktail was given grapefruit, and the Collection V cocktail included a fragrant combination of quince, gin, and riesling."
Dinner was a fine affair, with seasonal farm-to-table dishes that were inspired by the collection served family style. The whole experience was wild, in the best of ways. Photographs of exotic locations chronicling the designer's recent crossing of five continents (Jiun has been to more than 100 countries) adorned the walls and offered a behind-the-scenes view of exactly where he gets his inspiration. A true rising star, Jiun Ho's travel odyssey has yielded a truly beautiful, innovative collection of designs in contrasting textures and materials, rich dark woods, and lush fabrics. He is definitely one to watch. The Jiun Ho Collection V will be on view in Suite 1502 through November 19th. The collection will hit Dennis Miller's cutting-edge, contemporary showroom in late March, 2016.
The New York Design Center is located at 200 Lexington Avenue, NYC 10016.
