Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants just opened The Gray hotel in Chicago's Loop. The chic project is giving new life to what was formerly the New York Life Insurance Building. Each of the hotel's 293 rooms are carefully curated with custom-made materials that reference Chicago. A blue accent color seen throughout many of the guestrooms recalls the city's flag, while artwork by Chicagoans decorates the walls. Design firm Beleco incorporated modern, simplistic designs to expertly juxtapose the fully restored Georgia Gray marble from the original space and the building's early 1900s architecture. On the other side, global architecture and design firm, Gensler, manages to capture an effortless elegance that plays up the building's historical elements and accents. Nabil Moubayed, the General Manager and Midwest Director of Operations, says "We are thrilled to be opening another Kimpton property in Chicago. The Gray represents the innovative mindset of the Kimpton brand, utilizing a past rich with history and inspiration to create an experience that will impress today and withstand tomorrow."

To keep in line with Chicago's foodie set, The Gray also offers distinct food and beverage venues. Boleo is a South American-inspired restaurant, bar, and rooftop encompassing 4,000-square-feet of space on the hotel's 15th floor designed by New York-based Parts and Labor Design. The massive, open-air venue is set under a retractable glass roof so that it can remain open year-round. The lobby bar, Vol. 39, is perfect for wine enthusiasts and lovers of cocktails. It offers an extensive high-end wine and spirits program along with a vintage trove of encyclopedias that were discovered inside the property during renovations—hence the name! In addition, The Gray is also home to Steadfast, a seasonal, innovative restaurant that is the brainchild of the Fifty/50 Group. It occupies the ground floor and houses a wood-fire rotisserie, shaved ice crudo bar, and charcuterie room.

The Gray also offers nearly 13,000-square-feet of meeting and event space with all of Kimpton's signature amenties. Everything from complimentary WiFi and bike rentals, to overnight laundry and dry cleaning is offered along with pet-friendly options and a world-class concierge service. The hotel has even partnered with several brands, one of which is The Tie Bar, to introduce guests to Chicago's homegrown talents. Fitness brand Iron & Oar will offer specialized rowing classes to both guests and locals—and this is just the start. Guests can unwind with a blissful massage at Petrosino's Parlor or visit them for a quick polish change. For more information, click here.
