Brimming with lively garments gathered from both past and present, The Secret Life of Textiles: Synthetic Materials at the Metropolitan Museum of Art examines the role of synthetics in the development of modern fashion. The final installment in a series on textiles, Synthetic Materials places rayon, cellulose, polyester, and plastic in a historical and cultural context: reflecting technological advances, changing tastes, and shifting landscapes in the fashion world. The exhibit also exposes their fragile and self-destructive nature and how museum curators are working to preserve these revolutionary materials. The collection will be on view through September 4.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located at 1000 5th Ave, New York, NY 10028.
