The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge is the only facility in Manhattan that provides no cost housing to cancer patients and their primary caregivers from all over the world. On Tuesday, November 7th, the 10th Annual Hope Lodge Birthday Bash took place at Guastavino's to benefit the wonderful charity. The event was co-chaired by Ron & Sandy Diamond and Guillaume Gentet & David G. Carpenter. Marc Normand Gelinas designed a beautiful table meant to inspire.
NYS: Is this the first time you have participated in Hope Lodge? If so, what was the experience like for you?
Marc Normand Gelinas: This was my first time and the experience was very exciting. It was a fun evening catching up with familiar faces and I had a wonderful time meeting designers, all for such a great cause.
NYS: What was the theme and inspiration for your table? We love the beautiful mix of fabrics and colors you used!
Marc Normand Gelinas: I wanted my table to look more interior design inspired and not as if an event planner had done the table. This is how I'd throw a Sunday birthday dinner in an old chateau in France.
NYS: The pieces you used in the center of your table are gorgeous—can you please share where these items are from?
Marc Normand Gelinas: I decided to use some family heirlooms into my design, circling back to the theme of family that Hope Lodge represents.
NYS: If you could do it again, what would be your next table theme?
Marc Normand Gelinas: Something Venetian.
NYS: This might be a tough question for you, but what were some of your favorite table designs (aside from yours of course) at the event and why?
Marc Normand Gelinas: Milton De Paul for Samuel & Sons. I loved the way the designer brought in the green and lush nature of his native country.
NYS: What does Hope Lodge mean to you?
Marc Normand Gelinas: I know how important it is for patients and their families to have a secure place to live and stay during a taxing time. Anything I can do to support an organization such as Hope Lodge is a privilege.
NYS: What are you working on now?
Marc Normand Gelinas: I'm currently working on a rare book room, a Park Avenue lobby, and an ocean view home with a vast Modern Art collection.
